I didn't know much about it until my friend started at PCOM. Since then I have researched it and know that DO is the way to go.

My primary care doc is a DO. On multiple occasions he has helped me and family members through osteopathic manipulation. He also has done the "traditional help" that other allopathic physicians do. I am looking toward DO schools because it gives me the chance to help people in as many ways as possible.

I was working in cardiology for Intermountain Healthcare in Utah when a DO cardiologist started working our hospital. I had never even heard of osteopathic medicine at that time. I really liked the way he practiced medicine. I started reading about DO schools and was very intrigued. I also started to notice that 2 of the ER docs were DOs and that we had an osteopathic physicians, and also one of our neurologists was a DO.

I did a lot of reading on PCOM and ATSU's websites. I really liked the idea of taking the entire person into account when treating a patient. The more I researched osteopathic medicine the more I knew that DO schools were the only schools I would apply to... and I'm glad I did.

Here is a question for everyone out there. Why did you choose osteopathic medicine? Or for those of you premed students: what interests you about osteopathic medicine?
