Quick question to think about:

I work at a hospital in an area where osteopathic physicians are not as common. I know a lot of MD physicians. Does it matter if my letters of recommendation are from a DO or MD?

I'd have to say yes and no. I think it means a lot more if the DO that writes the letter knows you well. I think if the physician knows you well and feels that you will also make a good physician, then that means more than MD or DO. With that said… many schools require a letter from a DO, so it would behoove you to find a DO to shadow (for more than a week or two) and develop a relationship. A letter from a DO would probably show schools that you know what osteopathy is and that you really want to be more than just a doctor, you want to be a DO.
